The VEC came through again with grant aid of €134.83.

3rd November 2005
Was it a dream? No, we have done it!!! Gorey has secured €110,000 in Funding. Ellen Lynch from South East Radio spoke to Malcolm Byrne, Michael D`Arcy Jr. and Grant Masterson about the news of funding 1st thing the next day. We got a few minutes to tell the listeners of our plans now for Gorey Skate Park. Thanks to Michael and Malcolm for their kind words, their help to date and their support of the club. And also to Ellen Lynch who ironically wrote our first article in the Gorey Echo newspaper over 9 years ago now. Funny how things go eh? The picture was taken in the carpark where we had the ramps set up bedise the Gorey Firestation. Maybe more inronically is that Grant is now a retained firefighter here in Gorey!!!

There will be some great skateparks now springing up around the Country as soon as this money is spent. Finally our chance to go on a skate-tour of Ireland!!! Steven and John from Freestyle Skateparks made it over from England and met with us also later in the day and we sat down and went over a lot of ideas with them. Everyone had some great designs about what elements are goning be in the park. Expect to see some bowl sections and street areas for all levels of skaters. We will have the first draft of Gorey Skate Park up soon so chek back soon and watch the Gorey Skate Pages for all the latest designs. When we do get them up, send in some suggestions as to what might be improved or any ideas you might have on it. This will be an all concrete skatepark, about 1000m2 of an area and open access for everyone. If plans go well, we would hope to see the skatepark built and ready for opening by next May/June 2006. Just when everyone gets their summmer holidays...imagine that...

2nd November 2005

Congratulations to all the other projects that have recieved funding, we wish them all the best with their skateparks and hope to go and visit some day. Minister Dick Roche announced that over €2m of funding had been divided between another 20 different projects around the Country. Ireland has finally caught up to the rest of the world. Its been too long coming though eh? Wexford County recieved €110,000 and they are matching this so, we have €220,000 to spend on our skatepark.

24th October 2005
We had our meeting in Lock gCarmen Arms and it was attended by a good number of skating enthusiasts. Thanks to everyone who came along to show their support. A design committee was formed and they are as follows:

Al Ward
Shane Doyle
Chloe Christie
Barry McCabe
Grant Masterson
Paul Fennell
Sean Cullen
Dan Smith
Ian Carter

They will be meeting with Freestyle on the 2nd November to talk about what Gorey Skatepark might look like.

21sh October 2005
A few members of the Gorey Rampage Inline hockey team headed off to Kilkenny to take part in a 4 team Tournament. 2 teams from East Coast Blaze and 2 teams from Kilkenny played each other over 2 days. We made it for the first day and joined the KK B team. We had 3 excellent games of non-contact hockey (sort of,ask Karl who got sin-binned). It was a truly excellent days hockey action After reviewing the tenders, Freestyle Skateparks, have been chosen to design the skatepark and are hoping to come over soon to meet a group from Gorey to get together and come up with some plans for the skatepark.

11th October 2005
GSC go to the Dail Eireann!!! Yes, thanks to the hard work of Malcolm Byrne (who has been great and really fighting for our cause) we went off to Dublin and met with the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Dick Roche. Sean Cooke, Malcolm Byrne, Sandra Clarke and Grant Masterson met with him and put accross our case for a skatepark in Gorey. We were asking for a decision to be made soon on the fund he set up. About 28 applications were recieved from around the country and we hope that he will look favourably at ours now. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

4th October 2005
The planning application closed and no objections were lodged with the planning authorities. Thus showing that no one has any objections to a skatepark in Gorey. This helped move plans along quickly as they dont have to deal with any submissions or hold ups. Excellent news. Sean Cooke sent out 6 Tenders to companies and recieved 4 back very quickly. The VEC sent out applications for sport for young people grant scheme.

26th September 2005
A couple of members of the Committee met with Wexford Co. Council to talk about how the palns for the skatepark were progressing. Unbelievable....they decided that a concrete skatepark would be the best for them as it requires less maintenace etc. WOW. We were delighted to say the least.

Wednesday 17th August 2005
Wexford Co. Council put a public notice in their planning section of the local newspapers and on their website that a proposed Skatepark is to be erected on the grounds of Gorey Town Park.

This is a massive step forward. They have decided that a Skatepark will go ahead in Gorey. The Council are still to hear back from the Department of the Environment regarding funding from the pilot scheme fund but it seems they want to see it anyway. Tony Dempsey, Director of Services Planning and Community & Enterprise has made the decision that a Skatepark will go ahead in Gorey. This will not happen over night but maybe by next spring, hopefully we should have some ramps in place. Watch this space.

Monday 8th August 2005
We recieved letters from all 3 TD`s stating that they have been in contact with Minister Roche and that all the applications were recieved from around the Country. As far as we are aware, 28 were sent in to the Department of the Environment for funding from the pilot scheme fund. No date is set for when the decisions are to be made. We can only keep our fingers crossed!

Sunday 24th July 2005
BIG DAY OUT 2005 GOREY TOWN PARK
where would you start...
Wet wasnt it? If you were there.

Gorey Skate Club in association with Jimi Cullen Music, Gorey Town Council, Gorey Community Development Group and F.D.Y.S. held a fund raiser concert in Gorey Town Park. A total of €2,209 was raised through the selling of raffle tickets and money collected by members of the Rampage Inline hockey team in buckets at the gate and also down the town.

"Big Day Out 2005" was proudly sponsored by Gorey Business Park, McCauleys Pharmacy, and Maloccas Fast Food. Also helping out with some of the sponsorship was Sounds Good, Electric Design, AIB, BOI and PTSB.

Monday 3rd July 2005

Brendan Howlin TD was also given a visit to ask for his help with the proposal. He was very chatty and understood exactly what we were asking him for. Hopefully he can help us anyway.

Friday 1st July 2005

Two local TD`s, John Browne and Paul Kehoe were approached at their local clinics here in Gorey to ask for their support. These are the first TD`s to be approached about the proposal and even though the Dail is on a 12 week (?) recess, they will approach the necessary parties for us and push this project. Up till now we have met with nearly all the local councillors and district committee members and we know that TD`s have more pushing power. Lets wait and see.

Friday 16th June 2005

GSC met with the Wexford District Committee in The Market House, Main St. Gorey and outlined their proposal for a skatepark here in Gorey. The Deputation was attended by all members of the Committee and there were also two Co. Engineers present. Michael D`Arcy who is the Chairman was very receptive of the proposal and was very keen to help us with our application. Malcolm Byrne who is the Chairman of the Gorey Town Council was also very helpful with praising the Club for their determination to get proper facilities provided in Gorey. He also made clear to the Committee that the insurance was no longer an issue and that this type of project would be great for Gorey.

Tuesday 14th June 2005

GSC was in the Market House, Main St. to collect a cheque for the Club for €250 presented to them by members of the Gorey Town Council. They offer voluntary clubs and orgainisation a chance to apply for a small grant to assist them in the running of their clubs. Grant Masterson and Glenda Smith were present for GSC while nine other cheques were presented to other parties here in Gorey. Amongst them was an organisation called "New 2 Gorey". A service for all new people that have moved to Gorey and are looking for information on all sorts of everything from jobs to companies minding children. Other Clubs and Associations that recieved cheques were Gorey Musical Society, North Wexford Tourism, Gorey Choral Group, Byrne-Perry Summer School, St. Columba`s over 50s Club, St. Aidan`s Eldely Services and Gorey Community Social Services Council.

Monday 30th May 2005

Gorey Rampage training times are as follows- for the next few weeks on a Monday and Wednesday night at 7pm and also on Saturday at 3pm. We can be found down at the front basketball Courts of the Gorey Community School, Esmonde St. At the moment we are waiting some more gear but why not come down and see what's going on.

Friday 27th May 2005

A meeting was held with Sean Cooke, a member of Wexford Co. Council Community and Enterprise office, Malcolm Byrne the Town Chairman and Liz Stanley Gorey Town Clerk to discuss the proposal that we will be submitting to the Council so that they can apply to the Dept. Of the Environment for funding. The meeting was very positive and everything in the proposal was discussed. They have agreed to give us a piece of land in the Gorey Town Park, they will insure it and submit a proposal for the pilot scheme funding.

Saturday 14th May 2005

GSC had our first street campaign to raise the public's awareness of the need for proper skating facilities in the area. We met on the main street of Gorey to ask the public to sign a petition. This was follow up to the two articles in the Gorey Guardian and Gorey Echo newspapers. We set ourselves up on both sides of the street and asked everyone passing by to show their support for the Club. We were there for only 1 hour but in that short space of time managed to collect 14 A4 sheets full of names. Part of our pitch was the lack of new sports facilities for all the various clubs here in Gorey. The way that Gorey has become one of the fastest developing towns in Co. Wexford, but has still to provide new services to cater for all the new residents. As a Club, we have no proper place to call home. The people that we spoke to on Saturday were all very happy to show their support for us. They agreed that it would be a fantastic addition to the town, for all the skaters not only in the town but also from all over Ireland, even the world, that would come to Gorey just to skate and meet other enthusiasts.

Monday 9th May 2005

We had our meeting on Monday 9 in the Loch Garmen Arms Hotel. The meeting was attended by a number of skaters and parents form the Town. A big thanks to all whom made the effort to come along and support the cause. To give you all an idea of what the meeting was about, we talked about matters such as the Skatepark, funding for the park, IHI, player registration, training, equipment, fundraising and lobbying. A lot was discussed and by the sounds of things, we are going to have a very busy summer. There was a big interest in the inline hockey, and hopefully we should be training in the next few weeks. Check the inline hockey page for all the details. We are also glad to announce that we have new some new members on the Gorey Skate Club Committee.
